Folk Law In folk law, the residents of a village form a court to solve a problem in the event that they face an issue that requires the presence of a court in thei village, and they are either unable to attend one elsewhere or for some reason do not want to go to the official courts. Folk law orders, arranges and orients social life, and can have a wide sphere of competence, including marriage, divorce, matters of ownership and inheritance, relations between relatives and neighbours, disputes over boundaries, honor, robbery and questions of debt. Sanctions that are applied in folk law include condemnation, accusation, social pressure, ostracism, fines, etc. It is obvious that folk law contributed to the formation of many elements of modern law.
